KAMINEY is about a pair of twin brothers, Charlie & Guddu (Shahid Kapoor in dual roles). Charlie lisps while Guddu has a stutter problem. They are as different as chalk and cheese. And they can’t stand the sight of each other.

Till one fateful rainy night, their lives cross. Charlie gets mixed up in a deathly get rich quick scheme, while Guddu realizes that the love of his life, Sweety (Priyanka Chopra), has unwittingly put a price on his head. It’s a dark comic ride there on as the brothers are sucked into a world of drugs, guns and money. Their lives collide head on with the lives of gangsters, rebel soldiers, rogue politicians and crooked cops.

Bharat Creations, the distributor of ‘Varanam Aayiram’ in the U.S. has beckoned actor Suriya so that they could pep up the movie which is in its second week of screening.

Besides cruising along the Bay area, Suriya is all set to enthrall his fans by being with them during the shows of ‘Varanam Aayiram’ on Friday. IMC6 and Serra theaters will be the venue where he is going to interact with people and also watch the movie along with them.

Bearing mixed reviews, the movie is going steady for now since its opening week. Suriya has been widely acclaimed for his onscreen charm and dedication. During this second week, a tete-a-tete with the actor himself might be a time to relish for the people abroad. All said now, go grab your tickets in advance and spend your tea-time with Suriya.

The buzz is that director Shankar is ’silently’ shooting ‘Endhiran’ at the Chennai Film City and other locations in the city. Shooting is going on in a popular apparel joint in Adyar. A few scenes involving Rajinikanth was shot amidst tight security.

Since Aishwarya Rai is camping in Kerala for Mani Ratnam’s ‘Ravana’, the crew is shooting scenes that don’t need her. A huge set has reportedly been erected at the Film City, where the film is to be shot.

Shankar had earlier filmed a song sequence in Peru followed by some European countries. The second schedule took place in Goa.

Director Hari is known for narrating race tales with right commercial mix. Much was expected from Hari’s ‘Seval’, which was touted to be a crusade against the sufferings of widows in an Indian society. Unfortunately the movie has belied all expectations as it provides a feel of deja vu and it is clichéd and very predictable.

Hari’s treatment to the screenplay reminds us of several films made some four decades ago. A sense of watching a mega serial prevails at many places. Murugesan (Bharath), a village vagabond spends most of his time with his uncle Thapal Thangavel (Vadivel), the village postman. One day Murugesan meets Parijatham (Poonam Bajwa) a Brahmin girl and falls for her.

Parijatham’s sister Gayathri (Simran) dies after leaving her infant in her sibling’s hand. At a time when her family members compel Parijatham to marry her brother-in-law, there are two others in the village lusting for the young girl.

A series of events make Murugesan to take a tough decision and sends him to prison. What’s next is the climax of this tearjerker, which becomes a damp squib by the time the film comes to an end.

Bharath manages to deliver his best. Seems to be improving movie after movie, he gets his act right. He plays a happy-go-lucky-youngster in the first half and his transformation as an angry young man for a cause in the latter half deserves a special mention.

Poonam Bajwa does her job well, while Simran manages to leave an impact in her comeback. She oozes with right energy in the movie.

Vadivelu has a major screen space as he comes almost all through the film. He is a major relief in the movie evoking laughter at several places where the screenplay starts to lag.

G V Prakash’s songs don’t strike any magic on screen. Produced by M A Jinnah, ‘Seval’ can be enjoyed in parts.

Trends keep changing all the time and the Tamil film industry seems to have settled down on a particular style these days. This trend possibly could bring cheer to a lot of hearts.

Here’s the blueprint of the latest trend:

Cast a hero and then make wide preparations to rope in about half a dozen heroines for the film. The movie could work wonders at the box office.

In recent times director Selvah seems to have started this with the film ‘Naan Avan Illai’. The film starred five heroines – Sneha, Namitha, Jyothirmayi, Malavika and Keerthi Chawla.

‘Rajathi Raja’, a film by Sakthi Chidambaram and starring Ragava Larencce seems to follow this trend religiously. Half a dozen girls are part of the film. Snigtha, Meenakshi, Samiksha, Kamna Jethmalani, Mumtaz and Kiran. Looks like Ragava Larencce would be the most envied man in town soon as he would be seen romancing all these six beauties within a span of two and a half hours.

Similarly, director Jagan is all set to direct a film starring Pasupathy which would have five heroines. Rumors are agog that director Jananathan’s ‘Peranmai’ featuring ‘Jayam’ Ravi in the lead role has six heroines.

Joining the list is the remake of a yesteryear Tamil classic ‘Nootrukku Nooru’. Vinay plays the lead role in the film. The original version, directed by K Balachander featured Jaishankar in the lead role. This film too is expected to have as many as five female screen sizzlers. The latest buzz is that three out of five heroines for the movie have been roped in by director Selva who has been entrusted the responsibility of directing this flick and they are Sneha, Lakshmi Rai and Gajala. Yesteryear heroine Kasthuri is reportedly playing a pivotal role. D Imman would handle the music part.
